Monte Carlo - movie review

Its amazing this movie's first choice was to have Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts in this movie, but they decided to go with a younger cast. Granted, this movie has been dubbed as Lizzie Maguire on holiday. But don't listen to those guys.

Of course, the weekend it opened was the terminating Transformer movie for all the guys ...where supposedly ..there is more than meets the eye. So if you need a chick flick fix and you want to bring along a daughter, a sister or a friend...well, you've got yourself a little vacation to get too. The movie is based on THE HEADHUNTERS by Jules Bass. I'm happy they didn't stick with the novel's title.

So ...this is a story of three girls from Texas. All on a different page of their lives. Selena Gomez's character Grace just graduated high school and has been saving 4 years to go to Paris. Katie Cassidy's Emma is about to give up on her beau, played by Cory Monteith (Owen) and Leighton Meester's Meg who is a so called step-sister of Grace's that is a last minute tag along.

While you have Gomez for the younger folks, and Katie Cassidy being all sassy, there's Leighton Meester's character that tugged at your heart. True Grace and Meg don't know much about each other, than dislike, Meester creates a character you care about. Meg was so likeable in the movie, and she wore everything so beautiful. Truly, Leighton is a princess, but the fellow she meets, Luke Bracey's Riley is quite the opposite. And well..opposites do attract.

I liked Riley's story

In spite of false identity an a waylaid trip to Paris, the three girls get themselves in a fix in Monte Carlo. Blame it on a beautiful suite and grand clothing, these girls have some fun, and we get to view the beautiful locations they find on a trip of a lifetime. Each learn a little about themselves. Even Emma who is Grace's best friend that never finished  high school.

The movie has heart. And its a nice little getaway on a hot summer's day. A movie you can take your Mom to, or a close friend. Between the international eye-candy and grand landmarks to view, its a sweet movie. But not that sweet... you'll gag.

STORYLINE: A young woman, her uptight step sister and her best friend use their savings for a long anticipated dream trip to Paris, which turns out to be a big disappointment. When they decide to take a break from their lousy tour and duck into the lobby of a luxury hotel, one of them is mistaken for a spoiled British heiress. Before they get the chance to reveal their true identities they are wrapped up in misadventures during a vacation to Monte Carlo instead.
