This has to be my favorite new show. It has solid writing, a great cast and I have never seen Gale Harold have such a cool role (OK, not since Queer as Folk).
The first scene he was in, set the show off..well, in a blaze..so to speak. Each episode we are finding out just how wicked the show can get. Yet along the way, there is naive Cassie played by Britt Robertson who is brought into the circle of witches to make them complete.
Of course, it isn't exactly working splendid yet.
Diane, played by the wonderfully sincere Shelly Hennig. There is something sort of Emma Roberts about her, turned Nancy Drew. Yet, things might turn to fire if Diane's long-time beau, Adam (played by Thomas Dekker) lets himself finally connect to Cassie. True, those two look to be in a daze to each other.
While newcomer Louis Hunter is Nic who is possibly just a player with a few sensual powers. As it is, he's getting away with so much with Melissa, also a witch played by Jessica Parker Kennedy. Yet, one has to wonder if restless Faye (played by the wonderful Phoebe Toniken) just might have a thing for Melissa.
Fans are sure there will be a lesbian storyline. Many suspect once things fall apart with Diane and Adam that Diane will turn to Faye. But who knows how the story will play out.
I did love the line, an episode or so ago when an old friend of Cassie's Mom, awoke from a coma and told Cassie, "Don't you know when a bunch of witches get together, demons are sure to follow..." The show might focus on the new generation of witches, yet its their parents' history they need to sort through. And who knows what their grandparents might know. Things are coming together like a bolt of lightening from one episode to the next. Thankfully, the writers and all are on the same page on this show. Definitely, a great adaptation of L.J. Smith's work.
STORYLINE: The "Secret Circle" series follows 16-year-old Cassie, who moves from California to live with her grandmother in New Salem and falls in love with a mysterious boy named Adam. But, when she enrolls in high school there, she realizes that he, she and all the other elite students at the school are witches! She befriends their leader, Diana, but soon discovers that Adam and Diana are dating, which leads to a whole bunch of complicated drama.
