Fiction Tuesday - SPIN

Kate's To-Do List:

    Go to rehab
    Befriend/spy on "It Girl"
    Write killer expose
    Land dream job

Piece of cake!

When Kate Sandford lands an interview at her favorite music magazine, The Line, it's the chance of a lifetime. So Kate goes out to celebrate—and shows up still drunk to the interview the next morning. It's no surprise that she doesn't get the job, but her performance has convinced the editors that she'd be perfect for an undercover assignment for their gossip rag. All Kate has to do is follow "It Girl" Amber Sheppard into rehab. If she can get the inside scoop—and complete the thirty-day program—they'll reconsider her for the position at The Line. Kate takes the assignment, but when real friendships start to develop, she has to decide if what she has to gain is worth the price she'll have to pay.

I could definitely see Lizzy Caplan as the main character Kate.

“In Kate Sandford, Catherine McKenzie has created a 21st century Bridget Jones—dark and delicate, broken yet strong. SPIN is all at once comic, heart-breaking, and life-affirming.” (Tish Cohen, author of Inside Out Girl and Town House )

Isla Fisher as the artist she wants to get the story on.

“Catherine McKenzie, in her debut novel, ably invites the reader into the story... For readers who enjoy a light, breezy love story, this book clips along well and satisfies. Many will likely find this book enjoyable and a worthy debut effort by Catherine McKenzie.” (New York Journal of Books )

About the Author: Catherine McKenzie was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, where she now practices law. An avid runner and skier, she has also taught part-time at the McGill Faculty of Law.

McKenzie is the type of author that keeps the page turning with her humor and the interesting situations she gets her main character into. If you love the music world, I'm sure you'll want to get into this novel. There is even a playlist at the back of the book.

You wouldn't think a book about a girl contemplating the fact that she just may be an alcoholic could be funny.. but Spin is just that. It tackles a somewhat dark subject with humor and heart. I could not put this book down. I laughed out loud so many times that my husband asked what I was reading. Spin is modern, full of amazing music references. The main character is so likeable that by the end of the book you feel like she's a friend. It's not all humor and wit though, like I said, the book tackles a few deeper issues. There are definite moments where I felt like crying. Spin is the type of book that you want to just... hug. When you're done, you sigh... give it a big 'ol hug and run and tell your friends to read it. Cannot wait for more from this author!  -girlswithbooks

Damn, I loved this book! Damaged female lead, awkward situations, quirky friends and a hunky guy – honeslty? What’s not to love?-Lavender Lines

Catherine McKenzie has been a very busy girl this past year with a couple of other novels. Forgotten and Arranged. She might be your new favorite novelist. She has a modern take on life, romance and everything else that comes with it.
