call the midwife

If you've wonder how life was in London in the 50's, look no further, PBS has the answer for you in BBC's CALL THE MIDWIFE.

Based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth; the story follows twenty-two year old Jenny, who in 1957 leaves her comfortable home to become a midwife in London's East End slums. She expects to find a hospital, and is surprised to find that the clinic is a convent: Nonnatus House. Working alongside her fellow nurses and the medically-trained nuns, Jenny has her eyes opened to the harsh living conditions. But she also discovers the warm hearts and the bravery of the mothers; each one a heroine in Jenny's eyes. IMBD

Jessica Raine at the right is Jenny.

Jenny is played by Jessica Raine. Vanessa Redgraves is the mature Jenny who narrates the story. Lets just say you get to see a lot of babies being born, and of course, the unique situations these young midwives are put in during the course of the series.

There is no one quite like Chummy played by Miranda Hart. She's tall, awkward and oh so innocent.
“I’ve hardly felt comfortable anywhere, but when I’ve had, it’s been with you.” -Chummy

I love this show to bits.  Seriously, it’s a medical drama where the medicine is the drama and the characters are so engaging.  I just finished third episode where I held back all the tears.  Chummy is a blast and I hope we see more of her.  I love the nuns too—snarky nuns are fabulous!  -drawntotheocean

  5. The only fuss about this show on PBS is that it doesn't show its complete entirety as on BBC. PBS likes to round it up to just an hour..so we don't get to see just pain staking it was for Chummy to get her uniform just right. They didn't have a nurse uniform in her size..so she had to make her own.
