Sassy Pants

STORYLINE: Desperate to get out from under her overprotective mother, a home-schooled teen runs off to live with her dad, and forms a bond with his much-younger boyfriend.
Then & Now-A

Honestly, I hadn't seen Hayley Joel Osment in anything in years. Wow, does he form a quick and quirky character as Chip Hardy on the screen. His Chip is so happy in such a dysfunctional world as the boyfriend of diedrich Bader's Dale, who is quite miserable in a sense. He plays Ashley Rickard's dad's boyfriend.

Ashley Rickards as Bethany is quite miserable herself. She's practically held hostage as a homeschooler. She can't wait to get away from her over protective Mom played by Anna Gunn.

Its a sad and bitter story, really. However, Bethany has a fashion sense and is afraid she'll never know how to enjoy it in the complicated life she lives. She's also rather fond of the boy across the street who's joining the military played by Rene Rosado as Hector.

Even with a real job comes the consequence of working with bad co-workers.

Honestly, I can't say I enjoyed the comedy in this. It was rather bitter. A part of me wanted to know what it would have been like if perhaps Chip and Bethany had lived together. Chip was rather protective of Bethany, and he definitely deserved better than Dale. Yet, this is Bethany's story and how she has to find her own way in the world. Away from her Mom.

Yet, I did like Chip's joy in life, but I wondered if he was on autopilot some of the time, and didn't recognize he needed better too.

Still, I'm glad I watched Sassy Pants. The phrase came from Bethany's mother who thought of Beth as being ungrateful for all that she'd given her, which honestly wasn't much of a life at home. Other than trying to stifle the creativity out of her, hoping to keep her away from life's bitter pills like her father. Of course, it was her mother that had made him so bitter.
