The Host

Let's face it, Stephenie Meyer is a romantic, and plans to get to us through sweet stories to make this world a better place. However, it might mean translating it in the cheesiest movie ever.  Think about it, The Twilight Saga was plenty cheesy too. But there were vampires, and they were glittery. This time, aliens look more or less like sparkly sperms before they enter humans in the back of the neck. Once they are inside, eyes light up like diamonds and the world is not full of liars and cheaters.

They truly have a great chemistry together.

I have mixed feelings about this movie.

Honestly, you have a beautiful cast. You've got some action going on. Saoirse Ronan as kick-ass Melanie Stryder and of course, a lovely Max Irons who does not need contacts to light up the screen as Jared Howe, the guy who's so happy to find a real girl who's body hasn't been invaded by the aliens.

Honestly, there were some beautiful flashback moments. Max does have a way of exposing that side of himself with the look of love. To others, it might be the look of lust.

However, it is kind of weird in a schizophrentic kind of way, a girl with two personalities. This was one of the reasons why I could never get into the book. Why not leave out the aliens and have a story about a girl with two personalities? Honestly, the seekers aren't that violent. They are slowly letting humans live among them.

To me, this was the hardest part to transfer on screen, which one is Melanie and which one in the Waunder (Wonda). Oh, and Wanda has a thing for Jake Abel's character Ian.

Honestly, Wonda is older and wiser than Melanie. She really is an old soul with a good heart, and she doesn't want to come between Jared and Melanie, but she'd like to be with Ian. Complicated yet?

Well, leave it to Steph to find a solution to the problem. This is definitely a film you'll either eat up, or you'll be snickering at every line that comes out of the actor's mouth. Which one will you choose? There are true believers in Stephenie Meyer. Except there might be fewer after this film.
