Trance

How can I explain this movie? Best way to put it..maybe its this year's Inception. Except, with a hypnotist.

What I can tell you is that Danny Boyle still has it. Sure, he's been commercial the last few years, but who wouldn't be with great scripts like Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours. Still, it was Trainspotting that caught our attention of how well he knows human nature. Well, he back with very complicated characters. One in particular, Simon played by Mr. James McAvoy, who's fit, who's keen and spot on for every situation.

The choice is yours. Do you want to remember or do you want to forget?-Elisabeth

Simon is a complicated guy. He's got problems even if he is quite the endearing gent of the art world. Oh, and did I mention he is caught up in the likes of a hypnotist?

This was an amazing role for Rosario Dawson. She's strong. She's vulnerable and very much in control. She knows how to get inside your head.

To round out the trio is criminal minded Vincent Cassel, who shows he's got the charisma for the part. Michael Fassenbender was suppose to have his role..but then again he's played with McAvoy before in X-Men. I'm glad Cassel got the role. He's smooth and not too over the top. He definitely knows how to pace himself in a thriller like this.

This movie has several twist and turns in the art world. For the most part McAvoy narrates the tale in the beginning. We get caught up in his predicament right away. Add an intense soundtrack along with McAvoy's wonderful accent and we are sucked in to what has happened to him, and how he can't remember.

Soon, though..one might wonder, did Dawson's Elisabeth put these memories in his head. And which would be better? Her ideas or what the bad guys might really do to Simon. As the story goes deeper, one might wonder just what sort of victim is Simon? Who is the real player? And just what is actually going on.

The movie is slick. Of course, it has its gritty bumps and turns with no one to trust. And you have to wait til the very end to see how it will end. This movie definitely has a lot going for it with Danny Boyle's style and direction. Definitely my favorite movie this year!

STORYLINE: A fine art auctioneer mixed up with a gang joins forces with a hypnotherapist to recover a lost painting. As boundaries between desire, reality and hypnotic suggestion begin to blur the stakes rise faster than anyone could have anticipated.

  3. The only thing that might have made it better if Ewan McGregor was in it too.
