White Bird in a Blizzard

It is always great to find an Akira movie. I've always found something interesting in what he finds in our culture. But this film has to be one of his most mature and cohesive films to date. And it stars it girl Shailene Woodley as the main character Kat. As usual, Akira has such natural characters, perhaps banking on naturalism. Although, I felt he pulled away from his usual genre when it comes to his circle of suburban fare. Shiloh Fernandez plays neighbor boy Phil with a mom who has a major handicap. She's blind. Add Eva Green as the strange mother of Kat's ..who goes missing. Perhaps Woodley was miscast, although, Akira was looking for a Wyona Ryder type. Still, I kind of saw the ending coming way before the end..and it felt like a bit too long to get there. Still, it was great to see Fernandez in a role. Although, I did want to see more of him. The music is a plus and the photography is pleasing too. If you are an Akira fan, you will certainly want to see the film.
