Shinsengumi - With You I Bloom

 `Shinsengumi'' is a story about the fictional young Shinsengumi soldiers Fukakusa Kyujuro and Kamagiri Daisaku. It is based on a manga with a historical factor to it. Thus it is a Japanese bromance. It features blackbelt and Japanese entertainer Maeda Kentaro as the suave and somewhat cool lead. However, you will find coupling in the short drama. Although, I was not impressed with the costuming and the script. Although, it is a story of hard times where many have their happiness taken away from them. A period where young men were without family and needed to be guided into becoming soldiers. Although, in the end they might be out to cut each other's throats. It feels the making of a boy group drama. And what do you know, most of the players are from Japanese boy bands.

Newcomer Oku Tomoya is showing he's grown since his BL Coin Laundry series which was pretty much a slow burn. This new drama is giving him a chance to show what he's truly made of. Although I felt it was a bit overacting, how else can you grow as an actor. Still, plenty of idols to watch in this drama. And it's not a long drama to endure. Sometimes, you might wish they'd just go ahead and break out in a song and dance. Oh, that intro! If you've been missing this kind of action well it's on Viki!
