The immortal Ascension

It ain't easy to meet your goals as a cultivator when you've never had a "spirit root". This has to be one of my favorite Yang Yang dramas in a long time. Also, one of my favorites in the "Wuxia" genre. (I've been reading the novel and like it very much.)  Wuxia just isn't what it used to be. Now we have to enter the "League" of cultivators from the Seven Sects, and that doesn't mean they have all their wits about them.

This is about a boy named Han who lived in the country, but to have a better life for his family, he finds his way to a sect that will take him in. Of course, he has to keep his wits about him. He doesn't come from wealth nor a long line of cultivators. He's all on his own. Honestly, it would be what one would expect from the lonely life of a priest. But he's there to learn.

Although he ends up in the beginning being kidnapped by his so-called master, who made his best friend into a puppet, and Han is sure to give up what knowledge he has (the story would have ended much sooner if he had). No, it's just the start of his journey. Before you know it, he gets mixed up with the Master's wives and his daughters. Still, Han is there to broaden his mind.

Now, to say he's completely innocent would be a lie. Yes, at times, he's had to be a killer and make some disappear, but it is all for good. After all, he loves plants and herbs, and learns the delicate process of making pills look much more like chocolate-covered malt balls.

And there was that time he got mixed up with the beautiful grandmaster when they were trying to kill a huge spider in the cave, and somehow cultivated together, which might be code in Chinese for SEX. But still, they have done their best to forget each other.

Just 30 episodes. Now on VIKI. My favorite C-drama of the year.

Super fun Villians too. A Wuxia needs its villains, and Wang Duo delivers. Honestly, I would love to watch him in comedy. But he has a way of making you feel just a little bad for him, but not totally.
