May is Mystery Month!

Marple: Twelve New Mysteries (Miss Marple Mysteries)

One doesn't stop at one murder...

Jane Marple is an elderly lady from St Mary Mead who possesses an uncanny knack for solving even the most perplexing puzzles. Now, for the first time in 45 years, Agatha Christie’s beloved character returns to the page for a globe-trotting tour of crime and detection.

Join Marple as she travels through her sleepy English village and around the world. In St Mary Mead, a Christmas dinner is interrupted by unexpected guests; the Broadway stage in New York City is set for a dangerous improvisation; bad omens surround an untimely death aboard a cruise ship to Hong Kong; and a bestselling writer on holiday in Italy is caught in a nefarious plot. These and other crimes committed in the name of love, jealousy, blackmail, and revenge are ones that only the indomitable Jane Marple can solve.

Bringing a fresh twist to the hallmarks of a classic Agatha Christie mystery, these twelve esteemed writers have captured the sharp wit, unique voice, and droll ingenuity of the deceptively demure detective. A triumphant celebration of Christie’s legacy and essential reading for crime lovers, Marple is a timely reminder why Jane Marple remains one of the most famous detectives of all time.

What Happened to the Bennetts:

Jason Bennett is a suburban dad who owns a court-reporting business, but one night, his life takes a horrific turn. He is driving his family home after his daughter’s field hockey game when a pickup truck begins tailgating them, on a dark stretch of road. Suddenly two men jump from the pickup and pull guns on Jason, demanding the car. A horrific flash of violence changes his life forever.

Later that awful night, Jason and his family receive a visit from the FBI. The agents tell them that the carjackers were members of a dangerous drug-trafficking organization—and now Jason and his family are in their crosshairs.

The agents advise the Bennetts to enter the witness protection program right away, and they have no choice but to agree. But WITSEC was designed to protect criminal informants, not law-abiding families. Taken from all they know, trapped in an unfamiliar life, the Bennetts begin to fall apart at the seams. Then Jason learns a shocking truth and realizes that he has to take matters into his own hands.

Tall Tails Secret Book Club:

When Laura Lee took the summer job as a housekeeper at the old Thornberry Estate, she knew it was a creepy place, but she had no idea how creepy. Mrs. Fitzwater warned her to keep her mind on her work and her nose in her own business, but one thing after another leads her astray, between the manor giving up its puzzles as she goes about her work, fun secrets to share with the clever ladies in her book club who are always up for a mystery, and a cat that seems to know more than she does.

The death of a chauffeur just outside the estate gates changes everything and suddenly creepy turns to deadly as Laura Lee finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation. When the police seem unable to solve the crime, can Laura Lee and her intrepid club find the killer before the killer finds Laura Lee?

National Paranormal Day is a holiday that falls on May 3rd every year and encourages people to share their paranormal experiences with other people. These can be stories of a haunted house you lived in, or maybe share the urban legend in your area about that road that shouldn’t be visited.

Usually, it is the quiet ones that know the most. But damn if there's that fellow who steals the show at the party, talking of stranger things. It could be the ghost in the library bathroom. Your Auntie's haunted house taken over by raccoons. It could be your roommate's car. I mean, some things...just can't be explained.

Maybe someone from beyond is asking for help. You just can't figure it out. But it makes you jump back. You lose a breath. The heart rushes with a thump. Suddenly, your beer isn't that tasty.

Yes, sometimes, it changes people. But it's always the best when you've got that hot guy in the corner telling the tale of something just a bit gruesome. It makes you wince. Could he be the one? Or just a stupid fool.

  1. Oh, so much great stuff here! I didn't know that May was mystery month -- or that there was such a thing as National Paranormal Day, and that it's today! You know I love a good mystery, especially Agatha Christie, so I was psyched to hear about this new Miss Marple rendition. Tall Tails Secret Book Club sounds like it'd be up my alley too. But the thing about this post that I enjoyed most was your fictionalized window into people's paranormal experiences. Or even just of hearing scary stories from a hottie. Very imaginative . . . you never know!
