Oh, those last minute gifts....

I used to be sock crazy with dolls. Although, I  prefer to use fresh fuzzy socks for my creatures. One of my earliest creatures was a gofer with a gray tube sock. I gave it to a third-grade boy. It was so funny because it was a surprise. We were going out to eat. His older sister (my friend) couldn't go out without him. Naturally, he was so, "I don't know why you made this for me. I don't like it at all." But the more we drove into the city he held it more. Of course, I shot back, "You could always give it to your girlfriend." Of course, his sister would look back as she drove, "I think you like it. What are you going to name it?" Oh, it was torture for him, but he held on to the thing, and later I found out he slept with it too. He said it was huggable. That day he told me all about his stepdad and what he had to put up with. See, you just never know what a little homemade gift can do for someone.

Also one of my favorites is a very rustic looking Cat that has no face. It's from a floral sock that I could never find the mate too. It makes me think of the past and how we grow to love things with our imagination. It's hugable and something I still cherish. Another sock doll trend is muc-muc style doll which is also a sock doll. This you can make memories with some of the memories you have around the house, or something to make with the little ones. You make it as plain and simple as you want.

Muc-Muc dolls; Perhaps it's a Polish doll, but one of the best artists of this style is Japanese artist Grace Yen(the one in the pink). I so love her bunnies, but she is simply the best at inspiration.

  2. This is too cute, from your anecdote about the third-grader to the dolls themselves. And this part is just beautiful: "Also one of my favorites is a very rustic looking cat that has no face. It's from a floral sock that I could never find the mate to. It makes me think of the past and how we grow to love things with our imagination. It's huggable and something I still cherish." What a beautiful memory, and so true! 💖
