I was bugging Greg about this....
Do you give all your co-workers gifts? I am down to only wanting to give a couple a gifts this time. Honestly, it's dreadful to get gifts from some and these days, maybe it's best just to leave it alone. Honestly, those who are the most financially well off give the worst gifts. It's not like I want a prized possession but a lot of times I feel I get stuff they didn't want from somebody else. What are some of your favorite gifts to give?
I love to make fudge, but I usually just leave it in the breakroom. At this rate, maybe that could be the best gift I give. A lot of times, the director will give me knitted washcloths from her sister which are really nice.
For my boss, I found a red microwaveable soup cup with a lid in red (she loves red!) and I filled it with her favorite tea bags. I am going for cozy socks for at least 2 people on staff. And I think I will leave it at that this year.
When you read on MSN that Hard Times are coming...you just want to hoard soap and canned goods.
I have one co-worker who is retired but she has had such a rough winter taking care of all her husband's ailments and having to babysit her grandkids nonstop. I would like to send her a care package of some kind. But I really think she'd loved for the two of us to just go out for Chinese food instead. Really, those can be the best gifts, even if it's an outing for BoBo tea.
It is always hard to figure out what is best for the holidays.
One holiday many years ago, I found that all the presents I had crocheted for someone were shredded up and tossed on my driveway. At the time, I didn't realize the woman I had befriended was bipolar. She was upset with me because I was concerned about her teenage son she kept locking out of the house and then he would end up in jail. So that was a broken friendship.
It wasn't that I asked to be friends with her, but she'd met me during the summer at the library and thought I was someone else. Someone she knew from her Catholic church. I told her I wasn't Catholic. Later, she thought I loved Daniel Steel books (which I have never read one, ever) so I ended up with a stack of those I sent to the Libray booksale room. Still, we did manage a few nice lunch outings. So maybe it's just me. But I really felt bad for her son because he was a sweet kid.
Gift giving is complicated sometimes
ReplyDeleteThose are nice gits. And eating out with someone is a nice goft too. If they like chinese like I do that might be the ebst gift of all lol. Seriously though-I often gave gift cards when I was a supervisor, althouh that got expensive. :) Sometimes the personalized gifts, or yes some fuzzy socks, are perfect.
ReplyDeleteOh my. I hope things worked out...
And thanks for the shout out!
I love Abbott and Costello. Meets Frankenstein is my favorite but they have so many. And yes I've loved the blurb about the poor guy :)
DeleteWe just got a LEGO Friends set for my niece tonight so now we can go to Christmas this weekend har lol
Uy es que a veces la gente. No sabe ser buen compañero y dar regalos siempre es dificil y más a gente que no conoces bien. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteHoliday gifting can be dicey! When I got my first job, my boss got me a cute Christmas knickknack, but I didn't have anything for her! So I ran out at lunch and picked up a set of four Christmas-themed dessert plates. After that, I'd always buy candy to have on hand in case something like that happened again. Your gift plans sound lovely. I think your boss will appreciate the thoughtful soup cup in her favorite color, filled with her favorite tea. As for the others, who doesn't love cozy socks? And fudge in the breakroom is always a slam dunk! For the most part, I just buy for my husband, parents, and sister and her family. The husband and I have a lot of fun picking out toys for the kids.
ReplyDeleteThat's really sad about your destroyed crochet gifts. Sometimes we end up connected to people who aren't capable of being connected. I can tell that you're a kind soul, so I don't think you can (or should) blame yourself.
Finally, that's funny about the Danielle Steele books. I've read a few in my time but never really got into them. 📕🧶💖🎄
