Chasing The Truth

Lots of fun and action! With some complicated bad guys along the way. And this is where you get that taste of a Russian influence in C-dramas. They are in unknown territories we aren't aware of. (2023 with 24 short episodes!)

A decade ago, polyglot police detective Chu Yi Han's mother went undercover to investigate a crime...and never came back. Since then, his only confidant is his “uncle”, as Chu Yi Han continued his search for his mother. Now, he has discovered there may be a chance to rescue her – but the stakes will be impossibly high… He learns that he must infiltrate a powerful crime syndicate known as the Northwestern Wolves – and quickly bring the organization down from inside. As he begins his quest, his path crosses with a dancer named Gu Lin Na, a woman with dangerous family ties to the syndicate. Can Chu Yi Han complete this perilous mission – and does Gu Lin Na hold the key to its success?

But this was the guy I wanted to see more of. Tang Xiao Tian pretty much always shines in a drama. On one hand, you are thinking, what's that guy doing in this drama? In this one, he was the cop partner who pretty much knew the tech side of what to do, like taking a bomb off someone without getting blown up. He was that bumbling guy who would do his best to keep a secret. Yeah, he's that nerd I wanted to see more of in the drama. I have seen this actor in a period piece and he was possibly one of the best scene stealers in Broker [Oh, if only we could have gone off in his storyline instead of the main one it might have been a wonderful drama..but it had a lot of things not going for it] Hopefully, he will make more dramas like Chasing The Truth.

Of course, it is not the perfect drama. Especially since the bad guys are called the North East Wolves. And the back story is definitely dramatic, but sometimes one might think it was a little too far out there.

Zhao Xun really brought on the wicked bad guy from his voice to his actions in this C-drama. Too bad they couldn't have had him in the lead. Although, I don't guess Chinese dramas work that way. But it would have been fun to see the whole story from the BAD GUY's point of view. Instead, it was much more traditional of that boy looking for his mother storyline, raised by the cops who brought him into the force. While Xun's character is the son of the gangster who owns most of the northern border (well, something like that). Let's just say I wonder if Xun would be all that great to watch as the good guy. But you never know. I hope he gets more ML roles!

  2. Sometimes someone works in a bad guy role but not as a good guy, but other times they're fine! THis sounds worth a watch.

Hope it was a good weekend.

  3. I loved the tip. I'm pretty out of touch with new dramas, but I love the ones with the mafia and lots of action.
