OC RP -Dakota

Just as Dakota and Nav were almost finishing up, Dakota looked over her shoulder and saw Fiona with her boys (she guessed). She'd seen the three around before, but they were always looking a little glum.

"Hey," Dakota waved them over with a smile. She wasn't sure why she did it, but she hadn't meant to ignore Fiona since the Pink Margarita night with the ladies. There was room at the picnic table for them.

"Hey, yourself," Fiona looked at her, indifferent, but managed to introduce her to Ezra and Han.

"Do you guys live here?" Dakota looked at Ezra and Han as if, perhaps they were a couple.

"I do," Ezra was even-lipped with a shrug.

"I just stopped by," Han's sheepish grin might have meant something else, but Nav piped in that Han was into documentaries.

"He's already interviewed me." Nav grinned to Han as if they might have a secret. Naturally, Dakota wondered it that meant something else too. She shook the thoughts, and Nav went to get the two of them some refills on an icy drink.

"I haven't seen you around lately," Dakota said, looking at Fiona, who was in the middle of eating her kabobs like a lion.

"She's been busy," Ezra said between bites.

"You two work together?" Dakota assumed the ice cream shop.

"Not anymore." He kept eating as if the two might be in a race.

Han filled her in on how they used to work at the library together. Dakota listened, thinking how easy it had been to have friends in the city. Although she felt they mostly wanted something from her. She hoped she didn't give off that vibe. She didn't mean to, but she was a little worried (OK, maybe a lot) about Fiona. But did it really matter?

Later, after the dishes were recycled and the group split up. The guys were going back to Nav's place, and Dakota walked to the bathroom and shower facility with Fiona.

"What's the matter?" Dakota hoped Fiona would open up, a little. They'd had fun at that party. It was a laugh fest about nothing in particular. It felt like a learning experience. All these older retired gals knew how to celebrate. Dakota like that with food and drink.

"It's nothing," Fiona winced as she hugged herself in angst.

"It's something," Dakota said about Fiona's job. Was that going well? Did she need to look for a better job?

Fiona sighed as if to say, "Why bother?" She told her she could get this kind of talk at home. Dakota nodded.

"Maybe you just don't need any friends right now," Dakota said. "But I do."

"What?" Fiona tilted her head and furrowed a frown. It was quiet then, but they didn't go their separate ways. "I..I might have done something I regret."

"Regret?" Now, Dakota's face was intense. What could have possibly happened? Was Fiona a thief at work? Was she that desperate?

"Well," Fiona acted as if it were no big deal, but she didn't go home right away after the party like Dakota thought. "I met someone. I think he's from Austen or maybe his name is Austin."

"He lives here?"

"I think so." Fiona nodded.

"What happened?" Dakota touched Fiona's inner arm and she flinched with a jolt.

"You don't want to know." She was straight-lipped.

"Oh God, did you sleep with him?" Dakota had to ask.
