Of course, she was safe on the couch waiting for him at home. It was good to have someone to watch TV with and talk to. He shivered at the thought of his Dad finding out about the doll. It was a good thing he was at the library.
"Dad, what are you doing here?" He managed the courage to go over where he was sitting. Naturally, his Dad Ambros didn't look up. He was a natural-born scholar who occasionally visited the states. Finally, he gave Ezra a look of disappointment.
"How long must you be blonde? I thought you would have outgrown it by now." His bottom lip was in a frat and it made Ezra uncomfortable. Not that his dad was one of those who whacked him on the head, but his dad could always hit a nerve. "You're spending to much money, I thought you'd be more frugal by now."
Ezra sighed and nursed the corner of his lower lip. His dad might be right. Maybe he was spending too much. He hadn't thought of that.
"Why are you still here?" His voice was in its usual tense, but Ezra felt as if he was being reprimanded. "Can't you find a better job?"
"I'm just fine," he didn't want to think about finding a job anytime soon. It was winter, a time to hibernate. A time to watch TV with M and let the world go by, one commercial at a time. Of course, he wasn't expecting his father to take him out to eat.
