Ricki & Minho

 

Oh, this was their first Christmas. It was a bit of a lazy one. They meant to go out and by some wine to start the holiday. Only it was snowing and it was so warm and cozy inside. 

So there went decorating a real tree, but they were going to art school and anything was possible. 

"Do you think your mother would like me?" Blonde blue-eyed Ricki asked her Asian boyfriend as they were trying to recycle a tree out of all those Amazon boxes from the relatives.

"Do you think yours would like me?" He grinned back and trimmed a little more on a broken-down box to give another branch to the tree they were putting on the wall. 

"Well, they sent us all this stuff," she laughed. After all, he was the first to use the French Press and she was still studying what to do with a wok. She thought they should make popcorn. They knew their families loved them. 

She asked what his parents might be up to, and he chuckled, "Oh, the wine has already been savored. She might have made bibimbap,  but she doesn't cook like she used to."

Ricki said it was eggnog all the way back home. She said she was glad she was here with him. Her uncles would come over and get into a dart game with her dad.

Minho said his brother was still teasing him about that American girl he met. 

"Oh, he just wants pictures of me." she shrugged.

"You're probably right," his smile was open as went on to say they (Ricki and Minho) made a good team. Yes, the tree was coming along and the snow fell so softly. 

They took a moment to look out their only window looking over the city. It was nice to look at from here. But it gave Ricki the shivers. She'd grown up in Minnesota and she was hoping she wouldn't find much of it back East.

Minho said it was cold in Seoul but the winters weren't as bad as they used to be. He wrapped his arms around her from behind and they looked back at their Christmas art project. Oh, possibly not a masterpiece that had spent a lifetime of Christmases, but it was theirs. A new beginning and the hope it could stand the test of time. Well, they'd probably have it in the dumpster by the end January.
